I love flowers! Flowers of all kinds. Flowers make me smile! They add color to my spaces, a sense of life to my home (not that my dogs don’t already add that in abundance) and they bring nature inside.
I am fortunate to go to the wholesale flower market each week to get fresh flowers for my home. It is treat that I happily give myself since it brings me such joy. Working from home, I am in many of the rooms of my house continually, so having flowers in the ones I frequent the most, makes me happy. I normally have them in several places in my kitchen, my first floor bathroom, my office and my bedroom. Sometimes they are potted flowering plants, but mostly they are cut flowers. Now that my cutting garden is in full bloom, I get more flowers from my own yard, instead of the market, which is wonderful!
When I professionally photograph a space, I am known for having an abundance of flowers. When a room lacks the perfect accessory, I can normally make up for it with a bunch of tulips or calla lilies. I will always have buckets of extra flowers and many different sized vases on site for the shoot, so I can quickly put together an arrangement as the photographer needs. I also have found a love for large green flowering branches for both my photo shoots and my own interiors. The bigger the better! Crate and Barrel has some really affordable large vases that are great for large stemmed flowers. Link here to one of my favorite universal vases.
I have found that floral design is very similar to room design. A successful arrangement has a variety of textures, materials, heights and depths. Below are a few of my recent creations.
Don’t wait for a special occasion to treat yourself to fresh flowers! Adding some a nature’s sunshine to a room is good for the soul!
