I love to use wallpaper in any room! The days of old when wallpaper didn’t easily go up or come down are far behind us. Wallpaper adds personality, texture, and movement to a room. It also makes a room unique for the homeowner. It comes in many price points, materials, and patterns. There are thousands of papers on the market, so whatever you choose, it can be unique to you!
Some of my favorite ways to incorporate wallpaper into a home are:
-
Getting playful in smaller spaces – you can be bold in a powder room or mudroom. It is also the perfect place to wallpaper the ceiling which makes the room feel larger.
-
Different materials – wallpapers come in many materials including silks, naturals such as grass cloth, velvets, and even faux leathers. Think outside the box and add a material to your walls that you might not expect.
-
Focal walls – you can create a focal wall in a room very easily with wallpaper. That can mean one wall has wallpaper while the others are painted. OR you can use coordinating wallpapers in a room using one on a focal wall and a different type on the remaining walls.
-
Above a chair rail or wainscoting – adding wallpaper in a hallway or dining room above a chair rail or wainscoting is a great way to add some color, design, and texture while still keeping the millwork design element intact.
-
In a bathroom – you can add a paper material wallpaper into a powder room but if the room has a shower or tub, you will want to use a vinyl paper so it doesn’t peel or get ruined from the moisture. Almost every wallpaper manufacturer now makes a line of vinyl papers that are reasonably priced and incredibly durable. They are also great for hallways in homes with children as they are as durable as what is used in a commercial building.
I encourage you to step outside your comfort zone and add a little bit of wallpaper for your next design project! The creativity of it can instantly make you smile as you enter a space.
