Reimagining Living: Total Zen
This double story family room with oversized windows and lots of light provided the perfect backdrop to transform a room that previously had all yellow wood and brown furniture into a room filled with whites and light gray tones. Painting the windows black, vs the previous yellow tone, allows the eye to clearly focus on the beautiful expansive yard just beyond this room creating an indoor/outdoor Zen experience.
Behind the Design
This family of 5 loves its 2 dogs, so we used performance-treated fabrics on all the furniture to make it easy to clean.
“The various materials and patterns within neutral fabrics create a Zen vibe not expected for a young family of this size. I even poured red wine on the sofa fabric swatch to show the homeowners that it would come out with soap and water.”
The House of JerMar Experience
“I never realized how the yellow wood in our previous room made me feel stressed! The final result is a modern, sleek, luxurious, and inviting space. We worked with Jeanne to design the new room to be lived in, used, and enjoyed by our growing family, and it worked – we love the room and now spend most of our time together in this great space!”
Press Highlight
“Jeanne Collins, of JerMar Designs, is an outstanding local designer, known for her ability to completely reimagine a space. So when a New Canaan family approached her about a big redesign of their large family ‘great’ room, Jeanne was excited to take on the challenge.”
Wellness Design Feature
We designed it for play. Since this family has young children, all surfaces were kept soft and round to prevent injuries.
White Fabrics and Families Co-existing in Design
Wine, coffee, mud…these fabrics can handle it all.
Yes, ANYONE can have a family room with a white sofa!
Designing for years of beauty and reliable durability. All the fabrics in this project above were either Crypton, performance, indoor/outdoor, or treated upon arrival for stain and soil resistance.
