I was late in joining the podcast bandwagon. I only started listening to them a few years ago. Once I realized how much I could learn from them, I was hooked! I enjoy learning, so listening to a podcast makes me feel not only relaxed but happy that I have spent my time learning. For me, podcasts are motivating, energizing, and inspiring, so they are a key component of my weekly mindfulness. There is power in listening to someone speak vs. reading that same message. I often hear messages from podcasts being repeated in my head by the person who said them.
Design industry podcasts, in particular, have taught me so much! I often take a walk and listen to 2 episodes of Business of Home or Trade Tales and feel incredibly motivated for my business afterward. I enjoy listening to how other successful designers built their businesses and how they continue to manage the challenges of running a multi-million dollar small business.
Podcasts that focus on mindset and mindfulness are favorites of mine. Mel Robbin’s relatively new podcast is fabulous! They are never that long and she has so much to share about her personal journey and learnings. She also focuses on the science behind mindset, which I enjoy. Mel Robbins was also featured on Hoda Kotb’s podcast, which was the perfect 45 minutes of two women who I find very inspiring! I have always enjoyed Hoda, so listening to her podcast provides very personal interviews with a wide variety of people known and unknown to me.
The morning ritual is another mindset favorite. These podcasts are short, 15-20 minutes, and focus on subjects to help start the day in a positive mindset with a focus on self, calm and inner peace. These are also good to listen to in the afternoon when my energy levels are lower, and I need a boost in positivity.
While I can not imagine starting a podcast, I have a client who did! She is a bank executive who started the podcast 52 weeks of me. Not only is she personally inspiring with all that she accomplishes in her busy life, but she also brings meaningful topics to her audience, ranging from career changes to parenting challenges.
I like to listen to my podcasts at 1.5x speed since I talk fast, which also helps me absorb more content in less time.
I would love to hear what your favorite podcasts are, so let me know below in the comments.
Cheers to continued learning and personal growth through podcasts!
